Ultimate Trader Challenge is a competition giving students an opportunity to trade stocks  and interact with the financial markets. Using a virtual trading platform, students can trade on almost all shares on the stock exchanges worldwide whilst competing against each other in a league table.

The Challenge: Participating students are given £100,000 of virtual cash to invest in a stock portfolio. This is the only league that we are participating in this year. The challenge is simple; you have trade to make the most of your money.

The Ultimate Trader: A league table of the top 10 traders will be published weekly. The student with the most money at the end of the 4-week challenge is crowned the ‘2009 Ultimate Trader’.

Theme: Economists vs ‘Rest of the World’ Economists are well respected for their understanding of global events and markets. But can they handle the heat from non-economics students? Who will be crowned king of the trading floor – an Economist? …maybe not!

The Platform: BullBearings runs the UK’s largest inter-university virtual stock trading platform with over 15,000 registered students and represents real-time market prices. Weekly profits (and losses!) will be recorded and a trading league of the top 10 Sheffield portfolios published on the Young Investors website and in the White Rose CETLE Enterprise Zone.

About Young Investors: Young Investors is concerned with raising the level of commercial awareness of students by running programs such as Ultimate Trader to stimulate students’ interest in learning about the global economy and its key players. The Young Investors initiative is supported by University of Sheffield Enterprise.
