Date/Time: 11 March 2009, 5pm-8pm

The event will focus on how social enterprise organisations, for example employee owned social enterprises, make a difference to the successful delivery of community and public services. Speakers are Margaret Elliott (OBE) founder of Sunderland Home Care Associates and Amitti CanagaRetna, Senior Policy Manager, Department of Health Social Enterprise Unit.

The Darzi Report (2008) on the National Health service made specific reference to the role of social enterprises in ensuring that local health and well being needs are better understood and addressed. The Department of Health Social Enterprise Unit has been set up to encourage the growth of social enterprises in health and social care as a key part of patient led reforms. Sunderland Home Care Associates is a very successful employee owned social enterprise which has delivered excellence in care provision. Two prominent speakers will lead the debate about this important development in community and public service delivery.
